Cllr. Greg Stone has been asked to become the chair of the board of directors of a new company set up in Newcastle as a partnership between Newcastle City Council, Newcastle Partnership, and agencies such as Northumbria Police, the Chamber of Commerce, Job Centre Plus, University of Northumbria, and Newcastle College, designed to co-ordinate efforts to tackle long-term worklessness in the city.
Greg said "I am very honoured to have been asked to be the inaugural chair of Newcastle Futures. I look forward to the company's establishment and successful co-ordination of activity to help overcome barriers to employment and to promote employability in areas of the city where people are experiencing long term disadvantage. Newcastle's employment rate is growing and our economy is on a sustained upward trend, but there is much we still need to do to improve economic prospects of people who have been out of work for some time or who have never worked. I look forward to working with chief executive Gill Hewitson to achieve success in this area, by pulling together and combining the work of several partner agencies".
