COCHRANE PARK & HIGH HEATON RESIDENTS ASKED FOR VIEWS ON SAINSBURYS EXPANSION AT ETHERSTONE AVENUE

Newcastle East Liberal Democrat Parliamentary spokesman Greg Stone is asking for views from Heaton and Cochrane Park residents about the future of the Sainsburys store at Etherstone Avenue.
The supermarket giant is launching consultation on plans to rebuild and expand the store onto adjacent land at Etherstone Avenue, and will be holding an in-store exhibition this weekend.
Greg Stone, who is also the local councillor for the North Heaton ward, is calling on local residents to have their say about the proposals and to take part in the consultation.
He said: "Along with many local residents I often use the existing Sainsburys store at Cochrane Park.
"It is the only large supermarket in the north east of the city and at present its size seems about right for the area.
"I am planning to meet with Sainsburys in the near future to discuss the proposals and would welcome feedback from local residents about whether they would support enlargement of this store.
"I am reserving judgement about the proposals at present but look forward to viewing the designs and scale of the new store plans.
"I am particularly concerned that any redevelopment should make access safer, as the current entrances and exits off Benton Road and off Etherstone Avenue can be hazardous. I'm also keen to ensure that the vacant site adjacent to the store is made more secure, as it has been targeted by illegal traveller encampments in recent years."
