June 22, 2009 4:00 PM

Greg has today held a meeting with the city council's highways department to discuss road and traffic schemes in North Heaton ward, following requests from councillors and residents.

The following schemes were discussed:

Number 1 bus route: Super-route status is likely to include new bus shelters on the route in Cochrane Park, North Heaton, and Heaton

Ravenswood Road: Feasibility work is to be carried out to improve road safety near Ravenswood School, including Farnley Road.

Coast Road: New bus priority measures are likely for the Chillingham Road and Benfield Road junctions.

Jesmond Park West: A survey is to be carried out to assess demand for an extension of the residents parking zone as far south as Melbury Road.

Goswick Avenue: Further efforts to take enforcement action against the caravans and pigeon lorries parked at the end of Goswick are planned.

Spinney: Work will be done to adopt the highway at the rear of the Newton Road shops in preparation for the new Sure Start centre

Jesmond Dene: Tighter restrictions will be introduced to prevent non-essential traffic proceeding beyond the bottom of Park Head Road as part of the Lottery funded improvements, reducing speeding on the road to Fishermans Lodge.

Cochrane Park: New 20mph zone to be introduced in coming year

North Heaton bungalows: New 20mph zone to be introduced in coming year

High Heaton estate: Preliminary residents parking zone survey planned for the autumn

Benton Road: New traffic controlled junction planned for Sainsbury store on Etherstone to replace the existing roundabout; traffic light junction also planned for store access on Etherstone

Debdon / Bosworth Gardens: Requests to consider reopening Bosworth Gardens to through traffic have been put on hold pending assessment of the impact of the proposed 20mph zone

Rothbury Terrace: Requests for traffic calming on hold pending assessment of the impact of the proposed 20mph zone
