Greg meets police to raise concerns over East End minibikes and derelict buildings in Cochrane Park

July 28, 2009 10:45 AM

Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone is to meet Newcastle East police commanders today to discuss issues of crime and community safety in the constituency.

He will raise particular concerns raised with him by constituents including the proliferation of minibikes and motorbikes in various parts of the area including Waverdale, Pottery Bank, and Walker Riverside, as well as highlighting the dangerous state of empty commercial buildings at Cochrane Park, adjacent to Sainsburys.

Greg said "I know the police are already confiscating and crushing unlicensed bikes but I want to communicate the concerns of local people about the extent to which they are causing a nuisance. Similarly, I want to push for joint action between the council and the police to encourage the owners of the Cochrane Park site to demolish the vacant buildings ahead of forthcoming redevelopment, thus removing a potential location for antisocial behaviour"
