Labour can't even spell climate change in Newcastle East

November 3, 2009 4:44 PM

Lib Dem spokesman for Newcastle East Greg Stone and Lib Dem spokesman for South Heaton Mark Nelson have condemned Labour hypocrisy over the 10:10 climate change campaign (or "clmatie change" according to Labour's latest South Heaton leaflet).

Greg Stone said "South Heaton Labour councillors claim to be supporting action against climate change and the 10:10 campaign. Yet at the same time, South Heaton's Labour MP has been whipping Labour MPs to vote down a Commons motion to support the 10:10 campaign. Labour can't have it both ways. Their local claims - not to mention their ludicrously loaded questionnaire - are shown to be utter hypocrisy when their MP is actively opposing the 10:10 programme in Parliament."

Mark Nelson said "This is yet another example of Labour's MP for Newcastle East not just toeing the party line, but setting the party line and instructing Labour MPs to vote against the interests of local people, just as he did on 10p tax, post office closures, and student tuition fees. It's time Newcastle East had a Lib Dem MP who will put our community and our planet first, not the Labour party first."
