1 in 8 men now unemployed in Newcastle East

Figures for October show that unemployment amongst males in Newcastle East has now reached 1 in 8. There has been a 40% jump in the number of people unemployed in the constituency in the last 12 months
Prospective Lib Dem MP for Newcastle East Greg Stone said "The number of people unemployed in Newcastle East is likely to be higher by the end of the year than it was when Labour came to power in 1997. Thirteeen years of Labour government and billions of pounds of wasted spending have failed to reduce unemployment. There is now a very real fear that serious cuts will be needed in public spending and that public sector workers could find themselves out of work under Labour."
